Central Doha is the old heart of the city and the easiest place to base yourself for a short stay or a longer move. Within a few minutes you have Souq Waqif, the Corniche, Msheireb Downtown and the main metro interchange, with hotel apartments, studios and family-sized flats on almost every street.
Why stay in central Doha
- Everything close by: Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum of Qatar and the Corniche promenade are all a short taxi or metro ride away.
- The best metro links in the city: Msheireb station is the only stop served by all three lines – Red, Green and Gold – so the airport, West Bay, Katara, Lusail, Education City and the stadiums are all one ride or one change away.
- Value: hotel apartments here usually cost less than in West Bay or The Pearl, with more space for the money.
The neighbourhoods
- Msheireb: the rebuilt downtown district with modern streets, shops, cafés, the Msheireb Museums and its own tram loop.
- Souq Waqif and Salata: the traditional market, art galleries and restaurants, with the Corniche and the National Museum nearby.
- Al Mansoura and Al Muntazah: busy residential districts with supermarkets, restaurants and good-value apartments. Al Mansoura metro station is the end of the Green Line, one stop from Msheireb.
- Al Doha Al Jadeeda: on the Red Line, a quick ride from Hamad International Airport.
Getting around
The Red Line runs to Hamad International Airport Terminal 1, and free metrolink buses connect the stations to nearby streets. Taxis and ride-hailing apps are easy to find at any hour.
